The program teaches our kids about different "Safety" aspects. On Monday they learned about Pet Safety. How you treat an animal you don't know, if you want to pet a dog/cat you have to make sure you ask the owners permission, etc Two dogs came from the humane society for a visit. Tuesday they learned about crossing streets in a crosswalk and had to bring bike helmets for bike safety. Each child was given a tricycle to ride for the class time (it was funny to see them all parked in the hallway). Wednesday was more about crossing streets - but in instances where there might not be a crosswalk - like your driveway (to get a ball, etc) and more bike practicing. Thursday they rode on a BUS (bus safety) to the Fire and Police Departments for tours. They received badges, fire hats, etc - had a great time! Friday was graduation at the end of class.
In the parking lot of the school is a little "town". Sidewalks are painted on the parking lot with crosswalks and side walks and there are little buildings in the town (fire station, police station, library and something else I can't remember). There were streets as well. This is where they practiced what they learned each day.
We were supposed to see first hand, at graduation, what they had been doing all week in the parking lot. Wouldn't you know it though - 10 mins before it started it down poured outside and they couldn't do it anymore :( BUMMER!
It was a great program!
