Poop in the Pool

No picture needed here. I took the kids swimming for the first time at the new Hoyt Pool in Tosa. Grant has had swimming lessons here before, but we'd never been there just to swim for fun. So we thought we'd head there and make a morning of it. Parent/tot swim time from 9-11 (we got there about 930/945), after swimming we were going to have a picnic lunch in the park, after lunch there would be slides and swinging to be done at the playground there and then both kids would drift off to sleep on the drive home. The "perfect" morning out...or so I thought.

We got everyone sunscreened up and headed to the water. I asked both kids numerous times "do you have to go potty?" and was always given the answer 'no'. The week before we had been at the lake and when you have to pee at the lake - you pee in the water. So I explained over and over - this is NOT the lake, you cannot pee in the pool, you HAVE to tell Mommy when you have to go potty. Everyone looked as though this was fully understood.

So....off to the water we go. Both kids were having so much fun. "Watch this Mom" was the famous line. They'd put their heads under the water and "swim" and were having a blast. Then I notice something floating in the water around me...little pieces of something. Oh My....I think to myself...I wonder who's kid doesn't have a swim diaper on b/c that has got to be poop. Wait a minute - my kids don't have swim diapers on...but they are potty trained, so it can't be them right? I ask them just to be sure - both look at me and say "no". I'm not 100% believing them so off to the bathroom we go. We get there and sure enough - Alayna HAD POOPED IN THE POOL. Oh My! What were you thinking girl? Don't get me wrong - Alayna does have accidents - but they are pee accidents. I couldn't remember the last poop accident she had had. I had no idea what to do.

Out of the bathroom and over to the life guard. They tell me to track down the guard walking around the pool because lucky for them on this one - they can't leave their chair. I'm not sure what they had to do - but they cleared that area of the pool and we left the pool. $8 to get in for 5 mins (or less) of actual swimming...and we were leaving. I was so mad I wanted to cry. It was embarrassing. Off to the car, changed clothes and went home. Poor Grant was having a blast and then we had to leave. I was mad my "perfect morning out" was ruined and Alayna just didn't really seem to get it. SOOOOO...needless to say - we will be back to swim diapers this summer when hitting the pool scene. One never knows when they might sneak up on you - but I am NOT wanting to take that chance again!
